2024 MTV Video Music Awards winners list: Swift wins big again as Carpenter wins song of the year

Elmont, NY – The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards is the 41st annual running of the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) since its inaugural edition in 1984. It also marks the 40th anniversary of the VMAs. The 2024 edition held in UBS Arena in New York, was originally to be scheduled on Tuesday September 10, however the event pushed back one day to Wednesday September 11, the day after 2024 U.S. Presiential election's second debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

The award night was once again dominated by megastar Taylor Swift with seven award wins out of twelve nominations, including Best Artist, Best Pop, and Video Of The Year. With those wins, Swift has won more VMAs than anyone else in the VMA's 40-year history. Swift's 30 wins surpassed Beyonce Knowles's 27 wins. Last year in 2023, Swift won nine awards out of eleven nominations; the only category she won in the last two years is Video Of The Year.

Meanwhile, former Disney Channel star and current pop superstar Sabrina Carpenter took the Song Of The Year win with her single "Espresso". This became Carpenter's first win in a major music award on her career.
For the Video Vanguard award recipient this year goes to pop veteran Katy Perry. Perry also won Most Iconic Performance courtesy of her performance from 2013 VMAs at Barclays Center performing her 2013 single "Roar".
