2022 Russian Grand Prix canceled due to ongoing Russian-Ukraine war
SOCHI – On Thursday February 24, the FIA representative have been officially dropped the Russian Grand Prix from the 2022 Formula 1 World Championship calendar due to ongoing Russian Invasion of Ukraine. The 2022 Russian GP was originally slated to be held on September 25 at Sochi Autodrom.
Through social media, the FIA stated as follows:
The FIA Formula 1 World Championship visits countries all over the world with a positive vision to unite people, bringing nations together.
We are watching the developments in Ukraine with sadness and shock and hope for a swift and peaceful resolution to the present situation.
On Thursday evening (02/24) Formula 1, the FIA and the teams discussed the position of our sport, and the conclusion is, including the view of all relevant stakeholders, that it is impossible to held the Russian Grand Prix in this recent circumstances.
The Russian GP held annually at Sochi circuit since 2014. The Russian GP will be moved to Igora Drive circuit from 2023 onwards.
