2024 Masters: Facts behind the 88th Masters

Augusta, GA – The 2024 (88th) Masters has concluded with Scottie Scheffler earning his second Masters victory with a Tournament total of 11-under 277. Ludvig Åberg finished second at 7-under 281. Three players finished tied for third at 4-under 284: Tommy Fleetwood, Max Homa and Collin Morikawa. Sixty competitors made the cut, including five-time Masters champion Tiger Woods. Neal Shipley was the Low Amateur at 12-over 300.

Here are some of other interesting facts from the 88th Masters at Augusta National Golf Club.

1. Scheffler's victory
- Scheffler's win at the Masters made him the fourth Texan to win two green jackets after Byron Nelson, Ben Hogan and Ben Crenshaw.
- With the win at the Masters (in addition of his other two wins in 2024 at Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship and a runner-up at Houston Open), Scheffler has won more than US$13 million ahead of welcoming his first child with his wife Meredith.
- Also with the win at the Masters, Scheffler still remains strong at the top of the world golf ranking and as well as topping strongly the current 2024 FedEx Cup standings.

2. Tiger's milestone
- The final round of 2024 Masters became Tiger Woods' 100th round completed at Augusta National (both as amateur and professional).
- The 2024 Masters also became Woods' first cut made in any major championship since ending his 28-year deal with Nike in January 2024.
- In the third round, Woods scored 10-over 82, his highest score in a major since turning professional in 1996, albeit with his injury he sustained from his 2021 car crash.
3. Amateur achievements
- Neal Shipley, the 2023 U.S. Amateur runner-up became the low amateur on the tournament, the second player to do so since Doug Ghim in 2018.
- Shipley's opponent in the 2023 U.S. Amateur final, Nick Dunlap, initially invited to the tournament, but forfeited after turning professional, however Dunlap still qualified for the tournament under criteria no. 17. Dunlap missed the cut by one stroke.

4. Other tournament facts
- Akshay Bhatia made his first Masters full weekend debut (playing in all four rounds) ten years since became the finalist of the inaugural Drive, Chip And Putt Contest when he was 12. The 22 year-old finished inside top forty in his Masters debut.
- As of 2024, there's still neither player in Masters history to win the tournament and the par 3 contest in the same year. Rickie Fowler, the par 3 contest winner, finished tied for 30th, sixteen strokes behind the winner Scottie Scheffler.
- The 8th hole at Augusta is the record-breaking hole in the 2024 tournament, with more than 100 birdies scored and some eagles as well; among those who scored birdies in that hole is the champion Scheffler.
- Åberg's 2nd place at 2024 Masters equaled best result at the Masters by a Swede with Jonas Blixt in tied 2nd ten years prior in 2014. Åberg also matched Jordan Spieth (2014) and Will Zalatoris (2021) for best Masters' debutant finish.
- 11-over par 83 is the highest and worst score in a round at 2024 Masters scored by Emiliano Grillo in the second round. The Argentinian shot three-over 75 in the opening round played in two days due to a weather delay during first round of play. Another Argentinian, 2009 Masters champion Angel Cabrera initially invited for the tournament, however, his visa issues forced him not to travel outside his country Argentina.
- The 2024 Masters marked the end of Verne Lundquist's broadcasting career. Lundquist has participated in Masters broadcasting team with CBS from 1982. Outside the Masters and other major golf tournaments on CBS, he also voiced other sports with CBS such as American football, basketball, athletics and ice hockey.
