Mercedes-EQ ready to hit Indonesian EV market

JAKARTA – On December 8, 2022, PT Mercedes-Benz Distribution Indonesia (MBDI) officially launched the Mercedes-EQ brand that mostly focussed for electric vehicles production like the EQA, EQC, EQE, and EQS. For the Indonesian market, only EQE 350+ and EQS 450+ models to be available.

"Mercedes-Benz has always prioritized sustainabilities, so we have vision to present the zero-emission vehicles. The vision, namely Mercedes-Benz Ambition, is where we will highly expected to be neutral CO2 by 2039. At the end of this decade, we will fully working to produce and enlarge sales for electric vehicles for possible locations" said Choi Duk Jun, President Director of PT MBDI. The EQE 350+ and EQS 450+ will be assembled locally at its Wanaherang factory in Bogor, West Java.

In Indonesia, Mercedes-EQ will answer the challenge from Hyundai with their best-selling EVs Ioniq 5 and Kona, and Wuling with best-selling AIR EV, as well as Toyota (PT Toyota-Astra Motor), Honda (PT Honda Prospect Motor), and Kia which will launched their EVs respectively in 2023.

1. Mercedes EQS 450+
Mercedes EQS 450+ is offered for Indonesian models available in two trims: the stylish Electric Art Line, and the sporty AMG Line. A most significant feature of the car is the MBUX Hyperscreen which can interact driver and front passenger with "Hey Mercedes" and newly improved voice control and MBUX in-car infotainment and multimedia systems. The car is powered by dual electric motor that produces 333 hp and 570 Nm. The car can (estimated) reach more than 750 km (466 miles) after fully-charging conditions. Mercedes EQS is considered as the EV version of the S-Class.

2. Mercedes EQE 350+
The Mercedes EQE will be the main competitor against Genesis Electrified G80 which launched in Indonesia as official car for G20 Summit in Bali.
