Why did players joining 'unofficial' LIV Golf lose their PGA/DP World Tour status: The impact of players on joining LIV Golf

PONTE VEDRA, FL – On June 9, 2022, the golfing world was shocked with the inauguration of LIV Golf series, an unofficial golf league founded by former PGA Tour legend Greg 'Shark' Norman, in conjunction with Saudi Arabian Public Investments Fund. Top and elite pros including Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Bubba Watson, Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed, Bryson DeChambeau, Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood, Paul Casey, Graeme McDowell and 2023 European Ryder Cup captain Henrik Stenson were instantly signed into LIV Golf. The LIV Golf had different formats from PGA and DP World Tour; whereas the regular PGA and DP World Tour tournament has no shotgun starts (instead of the honorary starts in some tournaments including the Memorial Tournament, etc.) and a 72-hole stroke play format (with 36-hole cutline system), the LIV Golf has shotgun starts and a 54-hole stroke play format (without cutline system).

However, players who joined LIV Golf will lost their own PGA Tour or DP World Tour card and official status for next season onwards or being suspended indefinitely by the International Federation of PGA Tours (as mentioned by PGA Tour comissioner Jay Monahan in 2021). It also means that players will be automatically disqualified from FedEx Cup standings (PGA Tour) and get 2,000 points penalty on DP World Tour Race To Dubai rankings (European/DP World Tour). Players who joined LIV Golf will also automatically disqualified from the U.S. Ryder and Presidents Cup teams, as well as European Ryder Cup team and international Presidents Cup team onwards. 2020 Masters champion Dustin Johnson and three-time Masters champion Phil Mickelson will be banned to enter Augusta National (and forbidden to participate in events like champions gala dinner, par-3 contest, etc) following their signing with LIV Golf. Players who joined LIV Golf will also lost their exemptions to play on official tournaments and major championships organized and conducted by the International Federation of PGA Tours, the R&A, the United States Golf Association (USGA), and the PGA of America. Players who played in LIV Golf will get half points in the Official World Golf Ranking from regular PGA/DP World Tour tournament played in the same week.

- Anti-LIV Golf
Meanwhile other pro players who still played in 'a very comfortable' PGA and DP World Tour, will soon to boycott LIV Golf, which accussed as one of the sportwashing sporting events. The reasons why top players like Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas declined to join LIV Golf, because players will lost their confidence and broke their golfing images when joining LIV Golf. Eighteen-time major champion Jack Nicklaus will also curse the players who currently playing in LIV Golf.

If players who currently played in LIV Golf more comfortably than PGA/DP World Tour, I'm sure they will lose the comfort and will soon regret in the later years.......

Watch sporting law professor Jody Balsam's statement below regarding PGA Tour's lawsuit against LIV Golf, which according to Balsam: PGA Tour won the lawsuit against LIV Golf, that caused the current LIV Golf players will be permanently suspended from PGA Tour and disqualified from FedEx Cup standings.
