2022 Augusta National Women's Amateur - Anna Davis snatches win at golf's legendary course

AUGUSTA, GA – Since 2019, the iconic Augusta National Golf Club which annually hosted men's golf's first major the Masters Tournament, have held the new tournament for future women golf stars. The Augusta National Women's Amateur is held to develop young female golfers to became the future golf stars. It proved that the inaugural champion Jennifer Kupcho turned pro in the following year and took her first non-LPGA Tour win in 2020 and instantly became the LPGA Tour superstar since then.

The last year's winner was Tsubasa Kajitani from Japan, the year where her fellow compatriot Hideki Matsuyama claimed his green jacket.

This year, the winner goes to the high school sophomore student, Anna Davis. The 16 year-old Californian teenager shot a three-under 69 to win by one stroke with a 54-hole total of one under par. Ingrid Lindblad of Sweden and Latanna Stone, teammates at Louisiana State University, tied for runner-up.

With her victory, Davis joins a short but distinguished list of champions of the ANWA. "I'm still a little shocked — I don't think it's processed that I won here," Anna said, adding, "It's pretty surreal, to be honest. I'm pretty speechless. I can't even fathom what just happened."

During a post-round press conference Saturday, Davis learned that her victory had earned her a berth in this year's United States Women's Open. For all her older-than-her-years composure, she reacted to the news as a 16-year-old might. "That’s insane," she said. "I did not know that. I was looking forward to a qualifier in that soon, but that’s incredible."
