Mercedes-Benz S-Class W223 officially launched and sold in Indonesia
The wait is finally over. On 7 May 2021, PT Mercedes-Benz Distribution Indonesia have officially launched its new generation of the flagship sedan, the new Mercedes-Benz W223 S-Class. The new S-Class for the Indonesian market will be only available in two petrol engine models: S 450 L Luxury and S 500 L AMG Line; both are the long wheelbase models. But according to MBDI's CEO and President director, Choi Duk-jun, the S 450 L Luxury models will be locally assembled at Wanaherang factory in Bogor, West Java; while the S 500 L AMG Line models remain imported from Germany.
The new S-Class is equipped with the new MBUX multimedia and infotainment systems and newly improved driving and safety features. This will be the first car sold in Indonesia to feature the new electric door handle with Keyless-GO.
For the S 450 L Luxury model, the engine capacity remained unchanged from its predecessor (3,0 litre inline-6 turbocharged); but the power has been increased to 380 hp and the maximum torque also unchanged at 500 Nm. The engine is also equipped with the EQ Boost mild hybrid system for more fuel efficiency than its predecessor. The car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h within just five seconds and maximum speed of 250 km/h.
The estimated price for the new S-Class is started from IDR 3 billion off-the-road. The new S-Class will face its long-time rival, the BMW 7 Series (THE 7) which already sold in Indonesia with two petrol engine and long wheelbase models (730Li M Sport and 740Li Opulence) since 2020.
