Bland takes maiden European Tour win in dramatic sudden-death playoff at British Masters

48-year-old British golfer Richard Bland finally ended his long wait for achieving his long-time dream to win in a European Tour event after beating Italian player Guido Migliozzi in the first hole of sudden-death in the final round of 2021 British Masters.

The Englishman was two shots behind Migliozzi entering the final round, but Bland birdied the final two holes to force the young Italian a playoff after Migliozzi shot bogey and par on the final two holes. In the first sudden death playoff, Bland's tee shot ended in the rough while Migliozzi's drive found the fairway. With both players hitted their own 2nd shot in the edge of the green, Bland putted his ball just 3 feet closer from the hole while Migliozzi putted just outside 10 feet. With Bland putted for par, Migliozzi missed the putt to extend another playoff hole. The win took Bland into the top-15 in the Race To Dubai standings and top 50 in the Official World Golf ranking for the first time in his career.
