Masters Tournament 2021 preview

The 2021 Masters Tournament will be the 85th edition of the Masters Tournament and the first of the men's four major golf championships to be held in 2021. It will be held from April 8–11 at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.

In 2020 the tournament was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and held later in the year behind closed doors. Spectators are set to return in 2021, although in reduced numbers and there will be social distancing measures in place. For the second year in succession, the traditional Par-3 Contest will not be held due to these restrictions.

- Criteria of participants for the 2021 Masters Tournament:

1. Past/lifetime Masters champions since 1935
2. U.S. Open champions from 2016 to 2020
3. The Open Championship/British Open champions from 2016 to 2019 (2020 tournament cancelled due to COVID-19 pandemic)
4. U.S. PGA Championship champions from 2016 to 2020
5. The Players Championship champions from 2018 to 2021 (2020 tournament cancelled due to COVID-19 pandemic)
6. U.S. Amateur champion and runner-up in 2020
7. British Amateur champion in 2020
8. Top 50 players in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) as of 31 December 2020 and 29 March 2021
9. Players who qualified for the 2020 tour championships: Tour Championship (PGA Tour) and DP World Tour Championship, Dubai (European Tour)
10. Winners of the PGA Tour and European Tour events from the originally scheduled date of the 2020 Masters Tournament (April 9, 2020) to the start of the 2021 tournament*
11. Top 12 players and ties from the tournament's previous edition
12. Top 4 players and ties from the previous edition of U.S. Open (2020), U.S. PGA Championship (2020) and The Open Championship (2019)

* Events must carry full-point allocation towards the FedEx Cup and Race To Dubai

Note:
- Several championships were not held due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so there were no qualifiers under those criteria.
- The Masters Tournament committee may invite international players who are not otherwise qualified.
- The honorary starters (Thursday morning) are the six-time Masters champion Jack Nicklaus and three-time Masters champion Gary Player. On February 2021, Lee Elder was announced as the honorary starter for the tournament.
- The Masters champions gala dinner will be held on Tuesday evening with the use of health protocols and safety regulations to avoid COVID-19 contagions.
- Masters champions Sir Nick Faldo and Trevor Immelman will not play for this year's tournament, but still occupying duties as commentators and reporters during the tournament; Faldo from the Butler Cabin and Immelman at the 16th hole.
