Kim Sejeong is the recent example of being a former member of two highly-successful girl groups I.O.I and Gugudan who turned into a more successful soloist, but she is not the only one to do so. Here are the other female singers who also had the similar success to Sejeong!
Beyonce in 2013
Beyonce Knowles (born 4 September 1981) was a former member of best-selling girl group Destiny's Child (debuted in 1997) alongside Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. Together with Kelly and Michelle, Beyonce, as a Destiny's Child member released four best-selling studio albums until the group's disbandment in 2003. In 2004, Beyonce released her debut album Dangerously In Love, then she started working with her future husband, rapper Jay-Z for her next five studio albums (between 2006-2016) which each of them have been sold more than 100 million copies worldwide.
2. Nicole Scherzinger
Nicole Scherzinger (born 29 June 1978) was a member of best-selling girl group Pussycat Dolls from their debut in 2003 until their disbandment in 2010. Since Pussycat Dolls' disbandment, Nicole began her solo career by releasing her debut album Killer Love in 2011. She was also dated with seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton from 2008 until 2014.
3. Camila Cabello
Forming high-selling girl group Fifth Harmony alongside four other X Factor USA finalist in 2012 until parting ways with the group in 2016. In 2018, Camila released her debut self-titled album, which consisted two top-10 songs including "Havana". Her 2nd album, "Romance" (2019) was rather unsuccessful than her previous album.
4. Jessica Jung
Jessica Jung was born in Diamond Bar, San Francisco, California on April 17, 1989. She and her younger sister Krystal moved to Korea in 2000 and signed her contract directly with SM Entertainment. She became part of the best-selling girl group Girls' Generation from its debut in 2007, until her departure from the group in 2014. She then made her solo debut in 2016 by signed into Coridel Records. Jessica released her debut album With Love, J on May 2016. The album consisted two lead singles "Fly" and "Love Me The Same". She then released her single album Wonderland in November 2016. In August 2017 (the same month her formerly joined girl group SNSD celebrating 10th anniversary of debut), Jessica released her 2nd mini-album My Decade. Jessica currently owned her fashion marque Blanc & Eclare.
5. Bae Suzy
Bae Suzy (born October 10, 1994) was a member of best-selling girl group Miss A from its debut in 2010 until disbandment in 2017. Apart from her success with Miss A, Suzy also had a successful solo endavours. Suzy released her debut album Yes? No? on January 2017, with its lead single "Pretend" charting at number 2. Suzy's duet with Baekhyun in 2016, "Dream", is her first no.1 hit as a singer.
6. Sunmi
Lee Sunmi (born May 1, 1992) has been part of best-selling girl group Wonder Girls from its debut in 2007 until their disbandment in 2017. She then transferred from JYP Entertainment to Make Us Entertainment in 2017. Sunmi's solo endavour began in 2014, releasing her debut album Full Moon. In September 2018, she released her 2nd album Warning, the album debuted at 9th in the charts. The album spawned her two number one singles "Gashina" and "Siren".
