Swiatek becomes WTA's new world no.1 after Barty retires

MIAMI, FL – Three time grand-slam champion Ashleigh Barty has officially relinquished her world no. 1 status to Polish superstar Iga Swiatek, after the Aussie superstar Barty announced her official retirement from tennis. Swiatek herself became the new world no. 1 after defeating the former world no. 1 Naomi Osaka at Miami Open (04/03).

This marked Swiatek's sixth WTA Tour singles title, and third WTA 1000 title of the year. She became the fourth woman in history to win the Sunshine Double in singles, following her victory at Indian Wells a fortnight prior, and the youngest to do so.
