Scheffler became the new world number one male golfer after 2022 WGC-Dell Matchplay win
AUSTIN, TX – Scottie Scheffler has finally achieved his dream to become world number one male golfer, after the Texan defeated Kevin Kisner to capture the 2022 WGC-Dell Matchplay title at Austin Country Club, Austin, Texas. With this third win in last five starts, the Dallas native ended Jon Rahm's reign as a world number one golfer which lasted for nine months. Rahm himself eliminated in round of 16, after the Spaniard lost to Brooks Koepka, who lost to Scheffler in quarterfinals.
In doing so, Scheffler became the 2nd Dallas native to achieve this status since Jordan Spieth in 2015. Now, the 25 year-old is looking for his maiden major title, starting from this April's Masters Tournament at Augusta National.
