2022 Bahrain GP ‐ Leclerc victorious in dramatic season opener

SAKHIR – Charles Leclerc takes a massive sweet revenge of all mistakes he'd done three years ago in 2019, after the Ferrari driver took the chequered flag for victory at 2022 season opener in Bahrain Grand Prix at Sakhir Circuit. Throughout the race, the Monegasque driver battled with his teammate Carlos Sainz Jr. (P2) as well as two Red Bull drivers Sergio Perez and defending champion Max Verstappen. However, things got worse for the Christian Horner's armada as both Red Bull drivers didn't score points after Verstappen retired and Perez spun off in final three laps.

Defending champion Max Verstappen (Red Bull) started 2022 campaign with a massive disappointment after mechanical problems forced the Dutchman to retire from the Bahrain GP race.

Leclerc's win at Sakhir became his first win since 2019 Italian Grand Prix, and the Prancing Horse's first win at Sakhir since 2018 by Sebastian Vettel. Sainz's 2nd place finish at Sakhir is also the Spaniard's 2nd podium with Ferrari. As I told in the season preview article, Ferrari will be back stronger to fight for the 2022 titles, which Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto said at the start of the season.

- Mercedes' first struggle
Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) started his 2022 season in P3 at Bahrain following Red Bull's double DNF.

The 2022 season started not too bad for the Silver Arrows squad, as Sir Lewis Hamilton started his 2022 campaign with a third place finish with his teammate George Russell in fourth place. Throughout the weekend, Hamilton complained that he had struggled against some problems in his W13 including the top speed, acceleration and cornering speed, which the Mercedes drivers being disadvantaged by the Ferrari drivers during the race.

- K-Mag's surprise comeback
Kevin Magnussen made a strong start of 2022 season after the Haas driver finished fifth place and scored ten points. The Dane who initially raced in his 2nd full season at WeatherTech American Championships, made a sudden return to F1, after Nikita Mazepin's contract with Haas being terminated due to ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.
