2021 Wimbledon women's singles championship - Barty claims 2nd grand slam title after a dramatic final showdown against Pliskova

Ashleigh Barty said after winning her maiden grand slam title at Roland-Garros in 2019, that she will win her 2nd grand slam title at Wimbledon. Now, the world number one's goal has been finally achieved after facing her toughest rival Karolina Pliskova in 2021 Wimbledon women's singles championship match on Saturday (July 11th) at the Centre Court.

Barty raised the trophy after winning the Wimbledon title, her second career grand slam title after 2019 Roland-Garros

Barty's fight to win her 2nd grand slam title at Wimbledon is not easy. The Australian faced toughest challenges throughout the championship by defeating fellow Roland-Garros champion Barbora Krejcikova in the fourth round, and beating former Wimbledon champion Angelique Kerber in the semifinal.

In the championship match against Pliskova, Barty won the first set 6-3, however Pliskova fought back by winning 2nd set 6-7. After the championship decided in the third set, Barty went on to win the title by taking the final set 6-3.

"Being able to live out my dream with everyone here has made it better than I could ever have imagined" said Barty after winning her 2nd grand slam title at Wimbledon.
