Pinehurst, NC – Californian-Texan golfer Bryson DeChambeau won his 2nd U.S. Open title in a dramatic fashion at Pinehurst No. 2 by beating 2011 U.S. Open champion Rory McIlroy by one stroke. DeChambeau, the 2015 U.S. Amateur winner, and 2020 U.S. Open champion when it was played at Winged Foot without spectators/behind closed doors, finally wins it all in front of jubilant thousands of crowds at Pinehurst. DeChambeau's win at U.S. Open erased his disappointment after failed to win the PGA Championship last month at Valhalla. With his U.S. Open win at Pinehurst, 'The Long-Hitting Scientist' (DeChambeau's nickname due to playing all of his golf clubs in same length) is now a three-time USGA winner. DeChambeau was six years old when witnessing Payne Stewart's second and last U.S. Open title at Pinehurst, and this time, perhaps, DeChambeau dedicated his win to the late Stewart. Pinehurst, NC – After the conclusion of the opening round of the 124th U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 on Thursday (Jun. 13), 2011 U.S. Amateur winner Patrick Cantlay and 2011 U.S. Open champion Rory McIlroy shared the lead with their own first round scores of five-under par sixty five. 2024 Masters runner-up Ludvig Åberg is only one stroke behind the two co-leaders with his opening round score of four-under par sixty six. 2020 U.S. Open champion Bryson Dechambeau scored a three-under sixty seven and currently tied for fourth after the first round with Frenchman Mathieu Pavon. Jackson Suber, making his U.S. Open debut replacing 2021 U.S. Open champion Jon Rahm opened the tournament by scoring one-under par sixty nine in the opening round. Suber is currently tied for ninth through first round, alongside Canadian golfer Corey Conners and 2022 U.S. Amateur winner Sam Bennett.
