Road to 2024 Indonesian general election: Celebrities who took part as regional candidates (Jakarta)
JAKARTA – With the 2024 Indonesian general election to be held on February 14, 2024 (along with the two-round presidential election), there are many celebrites who became candidates for regional council for 2024-2029. And here are some celebrities who are the candidates from Jakarta region.
1. Once Mekel
The singer-songwriter who formerly brought his singing voices in the popular rock band Dewa 19 in 2000s, will represent PDIP party for supporting Ganjar-Mahfud coalition. He will become a legislative candidate for Jakarta 2, covering South Jakarta, Central Jakarta, and Overseas regions, while his former bandmate Ahmad Dhani will be voted for Surabaya and Sidoarjo regions, representing Gerindra party for supporting Prabowo-Gibran coalition.
2. Pasha (Sigit Purnomo)
The singer-songwriter known as the lead vocalist for the band UNGU, will represent PAN party for supporting Prabowo-Gibran. Pasha will be voted under his election number 5 for Jakarta 3 region.
The former news anchor for TVOne News is one of the directors of the PSI party. Natalie will be voted in Northern Jakarta region alongside her fellow news anchor Cheryl Tanzil, both representing PSI for supporting Prabowo-Gibran coalition. She's also an active director of PSI along with former Nidji band member Giring.
4. The Tanoesoedibjo sisters
The Tanoesoedibjo sisters, Valencia and Clarissa, are two daughters of Hary and Liliana Tanoesoedibjo, founders of MNC Media Group (which comprised of three TV channels: MNC TV [formerly TPI], GTV [formerly Global TV] and RCTI), and the Perindo party supporting Ganjar-Mahfud coalition. Their older sister, Angela, is currently a vice minister of tourism. Valencia will be voted in North Jakarta region, while Clarissa will be voted in West Java II region.
The award-winning singer-songwriter, music producer and former member of the Potrait band will be voted in West Java region 1 despite residing in Jakarta. Melly is known for her chart-hitting singles like "Bunda", "Gantung" and contributed soundtrack and appeared on the 2001 film Ada Apa Dengan Cinta (AADC).
