2022 Brazilian GP - Russell wins (at long last) in the chaotic Interlagos race
INTERLAGOS, SAO PAULO – After three years of a long wait since his Formula 1 debut in 2019, George Russell became a new Formula 1 race winner in the dramatic and chaotic Brazilian GP at Interlagos Jose Carlos Pace Circuit at Sao Paulo on Sunday (11/13). Started from pole after winning the sprint race on Saturday, the #63 Mercedes driver escaped with his lead alone, leaving the chaos and drama behind him including his teammate Lewis Hamilton's collision being involved with reigning world champion Max Verstappen (Red Bull Racing), as well as the collision involving Kevin Magnussen (his 100th race with Haas) and Daniel Ricciardo (McLaren). In the Hamilton-Verstappen collision, none of Hamilton and Verstappen found guilty; only at Magnussen-Ricciardo collision, Ricciardo got a grid penalty for final race in Abu Dhabi.
To my family, my friends, my teammates and everyone who has been on this journey, thank you. I can't put into words how much your support means to me and how much of a joint effort it has been. This win is as much yours as it is mine. We did it, together. I'm so proud of you all. pic.twitter.com/BC2PnM5sf7

In the end, Russell remained untouchable, with his teammate Hamilton completed the Silver Arrows' 1-2 finish, with Ferrari's Carlos Sainz Jr. completed the podium in third.🇧🇷 P3! Well-fought result from the team. We reacted to every challenge, even anticipating the first stop due to a tear-off, great pitstops and we brought home the best result possible. Congrats to George! On to Abu Dhabi.
