Big names missed cut at the Masters

An uncertain weather forecast at Augusta National Golf Club made players difficult to control the golf course on the first two rounds of the 85th Masters Tournament, golf's first major championship of the year. Biggest names like Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood, Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson were unable to make it into the weekend after missing the halfway cut after round 2.

McIlroy, who expected to complete his career grand slam by winning the tournament, shot 76 on round 1 and 74 on round 2. With the cutline is limited on (+3), McIlroy scored (+6) overall, missed the cut by three shots. The 31-year-old Northern Irishman will have to wait until next year's Masters Tournament.

Westwood, who won last year's European Tour Race To Dubai, also missed the cut, and the 46-year-old Englishman will also have to wait until golf's remaining majors this year: U.S. PGA, US Open and British Open.

Defending Masters champion and world number one golfer Dustin Johnson also missed the cut after struggling against the difficult course conditions on the first two rounds. On the 15th hole during the 2nd round, Johnson hitted his ball to the water, that caused the 36-year-old American to miss the halfway cut.

- Rose on top, Spieth back in contention
Two-time Masters runner-up Justin Rose dominated the field after the first two rounds of the tournament. Rose, who won the US Open in 2013 shot 63 on the first round but the 40-year-old Englishman stayed neutral during 2nd round by shot 72. If he maintains his lead until the end of the tournament, Rose will become the third Englishman to wear the 'Green Jacket' joining Sir Nick Faldo (1989, 1990 and 1996) and Danny Willett who won in 2016.

Another player who also in contention to win the Masters Tournament is the 27-year-old Jordan Spieth. Fresh-off from his last week's win on Texas Open, Spieth continues to make positive progress by shooting 71 on round 1 and 68 on round 2. If he wins the Masters Tournament, Spieth will reclaim his 2nd green jacket, and return to the top-10 in the world ranking, the last time he was in the top-10 was in mid 2019.
